Clothes Swap Sunday!

img_8971

This afternoon, I attended my very first clothes swap. What a delight! A bunch of fashionable Brisbane ladies gathered together in a breezy Queenslander and swapped our unwanted clothing.

We heaped our threads into a giant pile in the middle of the room… and the swapping began! There were no real rules, it was just an awesome mutual sharing situation, everyone adding little clothing stories along the way like “I found that jacket in a store in London aaaages ago!” or “I used to wear that skirt to work but now there’s no need because I work from home!” There was a real thrill when a friend picked up something of yours and wanted to give it a new home. Go on faux leather jacket… be free!

This concept is great for so many reasons. Clothes swapping allows you to totally revive your wardrobe without having to spend a dime! Plus, it’s a lovely excuse to get together with a bunch of pals and drink fresh iced tea on a Sunday afternoon. I’m so inspired by this, I really want to organise one on a bigger scale, perhaps at Uni…? Stay posted. All our unwanted clothing from today will be donated to charity.

My favourite finds from this swap have to be a hot pink silky scarf, a purple corduroy high-waisted skirt, a bright Lorna Jane jacket and a marbled Country Road skirt – all featured below!

Wardrobe Warriors Fashion Finds

img_8724I can’t seem to resist visiting the Wardrobe Warriors markets when I have a Sunday off work, because I never fail to come home with a stash of amazing goodies. Yestereday however, I hit some kind of thrifting jackpot, as almost every stall that I visited – I found a bargain!

I ended up coming home with a bright and colourful cotton dress ($5), Topshop shoes ($8), a striped and sparkly top ($5), a fully sequined Gatsby style top ($10) a pair of hippy pants ($2) and a tasselled hippy poncho ($8) for the upcoming Woodford Folk Festival (program out now, it’s AMAZING!). Naturally… I got my camera out and started snapping, with the help of my gorgous fiance Jamie.

Colourful cotton dress makes me wanna spin…

One of the pieces I scored today at the @wardrobewarriorsmarket ... a printed cotton dress with the coolest mix of colours, $5! The shoes were $8 (also found at today's market) originally from @topshop_au #sustainablefashion #slowfashion #fashionmarket #wardrobewarriors #brisbaneblogger #fashionblogger #unmaterialgirl Photo by @jimmyogs

This is the face I pulled this morning when the lady at the @wardrobewarriorsmarket told me this top was only $5! Seriously, I haven't come home with this many good things in ages! On today, go check it nowwww #wardrobewarriors #brisbane #market #fashionmarket #slowfashion #sustainablefashion #brisbanefashion

My face, once I realised how many things I’d bought…

Reverse Garbage Queensland Fashion Show

A few weeks ago, whilst Emilia and I were exploring the many isles of our favourite upcycled emporium – Reverse Garbage Queensland – we were asked by Kelly (their gift shop co-ordinator) if we’d like to participate as models in an upcoming fashion show, featuring the work of sustainable and ethical fashion designers…

Um. YES!

On Saturday night we took part in the total whirlwhind adventure that is a fashion show, and we had a damn good time! I brought along my Fuji and snapped as many behind the scenes shots as I could manage (between wardrobe changes). Click below for full photos!
